New articles are posted the first and third Tuesday of every month, with guest posts occasionally being posted on Thursdays.
My favourite part of university was writing research papers. No, really. I loved the challenge of finding the sources needed to make your point or explore a topic. While collecting the data wasn’t always thrilling, running the numbers and drawing conclusions based on statistics was. The best part was putting the final touch on a great paper and the bit of pride and amazement that I was actually able to write it. I find it a bit exhilarating.
While I research and write articles for Witz Education (which have since been published in TheFranchiseVoice and FranchiseCanada), I kept finding topics that weren’t enough for a full-length article. I enjoyed writing the articles and the feedback was very positive. After several people mentioned it, I finally decided to start the blog.
I want to recognize that many of these posts, especially ones that involved the generations, are stereotypes and do not apply to everyone. Are all Gen-Y’s the ego-centric, rebellious, debt heavy, entitled beings that the research suggests? Of course not. I have Gen-Y friends who run their own businesses and are more on-point than Boomer business operators I have worked for. Then there are those like me who, as much as I hate to admit it, at times have Gen-Y characteristics.
I was somewhat protected from failure by my parents, who were always there for me. They supported me through everything, whether it was dropping expensive online courses because I didn’t prepare enough for the exams or helping me pay off my school debts or letting me live with them while I save to buy a house. At the same, I have worked since I was 16, including through university, in an effort to be less of a financial burden. I could not have had the life and opportunities I have had without them and I value and appreciate their ongoing love and support.
I consider myself more a Gen-X, especially at work as I am always striving to improve, learn, and appreciate that it takes time to move up the chain of command. I work long hours and do whatever it takes to be successful. The point being that stereotypes are exactly that and there are many exceptions to the rule. Reality is not always what it seems to be!
